Thank you for your interest and the opportunity to speak and write about my recently published book. I am happy to answer all questions and provide insights into intergenerational issues in a working world of at least three and up to five generations who strive to work together harmoniously, productively and profitably. There is so much potential that is not being realized! And I hope and work to change that.

What is the main message of Embrace GENgagement?

The power and potential of generational / age diversity is an important missing element that informs and influences attitudes and behaviors regarding all other aspects of diversity and needs to be incorporated into both employee and customer experiences. It illuminates the essential role that the interpretation and understanding of typical generation attributes, assets and preferences plays in harmonious and productive relationships at work: What, when and how to integrate this important knowledge for inclusion and justice in multigenerative, multicultural workplace relationships is practical, specific action steps , Examples and stories.

Who is your book written for / Who would your book be best for?

The purpose of the book is to promote understanding and conversation, as well as building a harmonious working relationship between the different levels, generations and functions of the legal workforce. So it is written for: all generations, attorneys at all levels in law firms and legal departments; Professional employees; Department head / manager; (including marketing, business development, professional development, IT, HR, recruiting, knowledge management). While this is a broad audience within the legal community, in order to unite the generations all must read the same information as a basis for discussion and action. Here are specific benefits readers will get from reading and applying the steps in this book:

What experiences, skills, or specific training did you find helpful in writing this book?

I have been a pioneering consultant on marketing / business development and organizational effectiveness of law firms for three decades. Since 2004 I have focused on helping professional service companies solve their cross-generational challenges, which has earned me the reputation of being a “cross-generational voice”. This is my third book for the legal community after The Rainmaking Machine – now in its 30th edition – and The Marketer’s Handbook of Tips & Checklists. It’s the second to focus on generational problems at work, after You Can’t Google It! – The convincing case for intergenerational discussions at work. During my career I have delivered programs, workshops, webinars, thought leadership and podcast appearances and written countless articles, blogs for legal publications, associations and companies on these areas.

What problems lawyers face does Embrace GENgagement solve / address?

A variety of generational and related topics and challenges that often create tension, frustration and affect productivity and a sense of belonging, such as:

In the book, I addressed cross-generational strategies and tactics for creating, maintaining, and sustaining productive and profitable relationships both internally and with customers and other external stakeholders of different generations. Bulleted tips and checklists (a format that people love and that is easy to read, capture, and use) – a series of recipes or actions and tips on a variety of topics and challenges, each introduced by a paragraph that describes the challenge, opportunity, or purpose. What was your biggest challenge while writing this book?

If I summarize the enormous amount of material I have into my concise bullet format, it will save readers a lot of time finding exactly what they want answers to.

What’s the most important thing readers get to take away from Embrace GENgagement?

How important cross-generational factors are to understanding, interaction, productivity and profitability. You shouldn’t ignore this big missing piece and need to put intergenerational problems and challenges a place on the table for diversity, equity and inclusion, and management in decision making.
