The Ashdown Panthers hosted conference rival Joe T. Robinson Senators Friday night at Dick Hays stadium.
The stadium was filled with many emotions of appreciation as the seniors on the football team, cheerleading squad, dance team and band were recognized by thunderous ovations of love and adoration.
The Senators spoiled those good feelings by taking a 21-to-0 lead. However, the Panthers rose to the occasion to score twice on a 15-yard touchdown run by Alex Keilbach and a 2-yard run by Jaxon Jester (the Farm Bureau Player of the game). These two scoring drives were highlighted by a 35-yard pass reception by Merrick Miller, a 55-yard run by Xavier Sanders and an interception by Kameron Benton.
The defense, led by Vincent Jones, Brett Bond, AJ Hopkins, Carter Bowman and DJ Goffin, began to slow down the Senators’ offensive attack. However, the Senators would regain their footing and score three times before the half. The final score was 55 to 12.
After the game, Coach Matt Richardson remained confident and expects a great effort Friday night on the road against Fountain Lake.
Cole Smith, Kameron Benton, Joe and Alex Paredes along with Dillon Reed stated they remained upbeat and are excited about closing out the season on a positive note with a victory at Fountain Lake. One thing we have seen all year from the Panthers is that win or lose, they are united as one, ready for the next battle ahead on the schedule.
The Panthers end the season Friday night on the road against the Fountain Lake Cobras. Game time is set for 7 p.m.
